Mediterranean Fan Palm

This is the usually, and eventually multi-trunked fan palm. It's cousin, Trachycarpus, has usually only one trunk. Growth is about 6 inches a year. Fronds vary in color from deep green to grayish or yellowish green. Leaf stems are thorny. They form a low clump of several heads at the tips of many trunks which lean out from the center. In time, trunks grow to a height of 10 or 20' and lean outward so that a single plant may sprawl to 20' or so. They may be trimmed to develop a single trunk in a narrow planting area.
