Most
of these lovely foliage plants grow about 8-10 inches high. They originate in
the tropical rain forests of South America, giving cause to their special needs
for proper care. The leaves of all calathea species share the characteristic
stripes and spots, while flowers may vary somewhat.
Keep in light or partial shade year round. Water amply in summer and feed biweekly.
Provide high humidity. In winter, reduce watering but keep humidity strong with
regular weekly spraying.
